Chef JEFFREY BATES is currently the Food and
Beverage Manager for the award-winning Alluvian
Hotel – the cornerstone of the Viking
Hospitality Group. He also serves as a popular
chef instructor for the Viking Cooking School.
In his former position as Executive Chef at
Gulfport Memorial Hospital, he directed 68
employees and prepared an average of 1800 meals
per day. Then Hurricane Katrina hit the
Mississippi coast, and Gulfport Memorial
Hospital sustained 12 million dollars worth of
damage. Beaten but not broken, Chef Jeffrey led
his staff to feed thousands of people throughout
the storm and for months after. He calls it, “an
incredibly challenging and life-changing
experience.”
