For the Cultural Connoisseur: Hosted by
Scott Pearson
SCOTT PEARSON has been studying economic change
in developing countries for four decades. After
graduating from the University of Wisconsin in
1961, Scott joined the Peace Corps and taught
for two years in Nigeria. He then earned an M.A.
in international relations at Johns Hopkins
University and a Ph. D. in economics at Harvard
University, and went on to teach economic
development and international trade in the Food
Research Institute, Stanford University. During
the next three decades, Scott co-authored a
dozen books, wrote numerous journal articles,
won several awards for his research and
teaching, advised governments on food and
agricultural policy, and served for five years
as Director of the Food Research Institute. Most
years, he spends four or five months working
abroad, primarily in Africa, Southeast Asia, and
Southern Europe.
